Q: Can a man who has diabetes have children?

A: Yes he can have children, they can be healthy, diabetes is not contagious.
Q: support groups for parents of children with diabetes?
I am looking for online support groups for parents of children (infants and toddlers) with diabetes. My son, who is 16 months old, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and I am looking for as many resources as possible. I am particularly interested in feedback from parents whose children were diagnosed at a young age. I am also looking for coping strategies to deal with the inevitable anxiety, guilt, and frustration of dealing with a child with special needs. I would also welcome suggestions for online resources for building a healthy and diverse meal strategy.
A: Look into www.childrenwithdiabetes.com.... It's a wonderful support group online.... I'll post the link for the 'Parent's of children with Type 1' Forum from the website. Don't be afraid to sign up and get involved. If you do sign up, I'm going to go ahead and say welcome, but I'm sorry you had to join the other parents of T1s. Good Luck!

Q: Is there boarding schools that are meant for children diabetes?
I hate my school! When ever I feel low I hate going up to the teacher and telling her cause everyone just stares at me. I am the only one in my school with diabetes and I really need to talk to someone. And my school put up a rule that we cant have certain snacks when we have a party. All because of me! And people blame me for it! I hate my school! Is there any?
A: Some kids wear glasses.... some kids have red hair..... some kids are short...... some kids are tall..... some kids are heavy (fat)...... some kids are not..... some kids have Diabetes..... some kids do not....
Do you see where I'm going with this? Diabetes is just one part (although an important part) of your life. Diabetics are people too, just like everyone else.. You can do anything you want and go to any school as the rest of the kids.
Hold your head high and be proud of what you are, not which you are not.
I think your smart..... the other kids may not be !!!

Every year, Diabetes UK hold children aged 7~12 that give children with diabetes the unique opporyunity to partecipate in fun, adventurous activities and be among people who understand. It is often the case that children who attend these holidays are recently diagnosed and this can be an early step to learning about their own diabetes management and developing confidence, independence and a positive attitude to their condition.

There is tons of information out there.
Ask a local hospital or diabetes center to help out.

Q: Can women with type one diabetes have children?
I was thinking the other day about people with diabetes, can women with type one become pregnant and have kids? And will their kids have any birth defects and will they acquire type two diabetes?
A: Yes women with type 1 can get pregnant and have kids. Their children can develop birth defects from it only if they don't have their blood sugars under control.
I've heard that any type of diabetic mom who has uncontrolled blood sugars while pregnant can cause their child to be more prone to develop type 2 later in life. But it's unlikely that they're going to be born with type 2. It's more likely that they'll have birth defects (if Mom's sugars are high early in pregnancy) or be too large which causes a number of problems for Mom and baby (if Mom's sugars are high later on in pregnancy)
Edit ... I think someone might be misunderstanding me. I never said that type 1 and type 2 are related at all. A type 1 with uncontrolled sugars during pregnancy can increase the risk of their unborn child developing type 2 later in life because they will receive so much extra sugar while in the womb. And while sugar in itself does not cause type 2 diabetes, getting excessive amounts of it while you're still a fetus can start you on your way towards it. I know this because I read it in a book when I had gestational diabetes a few years ago.
Q: Are children with type 1 diabetes sometimes shorter?
If a child has diabetes for a long time do they grow slower?
A: Height in Type 1 diabetic children *can* be affected for a few reasons:
-If a child's blood sugar levels have been very high for a long period of time (an HbA1c over 9.0 for example), final height can be affected. If the child's growth plates in their bones have not fused yet and their blood sugars are brought under control, their height *may* "catch up".
-Children with Type 1 diabetes often have Celiac Disease (often silent so it is not diagnosed in time) and Hashimoto's Disease (thyroid disease), both of which can affect growth without treatment.
If the child is screened for these conditions and keeps their blood sugar in decent control, growth should not be affected, or not by much. If your child is not growing, please speak to their doctor. Rarer causes of growth failure can be growth hormone deficiency, which is rare in general but occurs more often in Type 1 diabetic children.
Q: Do you walk for diabetes research for children?
September 30th is the "Walk for Diabetes." The goal is to help type one (mostly children) individuals raise funds for research. The children have individual sites through the Diabetes Association in which the set goals. Please check out my 360 - blog. Do you walk or donate to diabetes research?
A: Yep! My mom is an volunteer organizer with JDRF. She, and some other parents were instrumental in bringing the JDRF walk to cure back to my local area. We walk in late august this year, under the banner of "Team Ped-a-cure" (my sister came up with the name...). We ask our friends and family to pledge in a letter we send out, either on the internet (www.jdrf.org) or by mailing a check. My friend's family (both my friend and her sister are diabetic) are going to joing our team this year, and maybe some more friends will walk with us. Its gonna be pretty cool. This local car dealer is gonna get all sorts of local car clubs to come out for a show, and walk for a diabetic kid in the area. Last year, our chapter exceeded our goal by about two fold. Hopefully, the same thing will happen this year.
We also have a really special event in my area. I live near a ski resort, and this ski shop near my house sells snowshoes as well. They have an annual event where they raise money for a cause, bring in a truckload of snowshoes, and offer food, music, and family fun. My mom is one of the co-chairs of that event, and a whole bunch of people come out to eat food (donated), listen to music (donated by local artists), snowshoe (on demo snowshoes) and enter to win fabulous raffle prizes. The Starlight Snowshoe doesn't raise nearly as much money as the walk, but it helps keep some attention on diabetes reaserach more often. I almost like this more than the walk, since I happen to like winter sports more, and it gives me an excuse to go out in the cold and snow shoe...
On a final note, I would encourage people to do JDRF walks more than ADA, although I guess that depends on people's goals. JDRF (juvenile diabetes reasearch foundation) spends about 80+% of their money on reasearch to cure, prevent, and reverse the complication of diabetes. The ADA (American Diabetes Association) sends about 30% (i think) of their money to reasearch. The rest is put into education and other stuff...
Q: I am working at a nurses office and children have diabetes. Can anyone tell me about their daily needs?
I am working at a nurses office at a summer camp. I am 14 years old and many children have diabetes. Can anyone tell me about their daily needs or direct websites to me
A: I appreciate your willingness to help, but you have no business taking care of diabetic children. Their daily needs revolve around keeping track of carbohydrate Calorie intake, proper dispensing of medication, and other details. I don't think that you're ready for the responsibility to handle this... particularly if something goes wrong. There should be certified professionals there to do it. I would do exactly as they tell you and nothing more.
Q: Any one have children with type 1 diabetes?
I have 4 children all boys ages 18, 7,5,& 3. My 7year old and 5 year old have diabetes. My 7 year old was 6 months old when diagnosed. The 5 year old was a month shy of 2 when diagnosed. Just want to know. Some times I feel alone dealing with this!
A: I do. I have two boys. An 11 yr old and a 4 yr old. My 4 yr old was diagnosed 2 months before he turned 3. I feel pretty alone in it also since we don;t personally know ahyone with type 1. I do lurk a lot at the childrenwithdiabetes.com forums especially the Parents of Children with Type 1. Also, I lurk at the ADA parents message board. I think I've posted one. I actually feel the support just reading the posts because these are parents that understand the roller coaster our family has been on since diagnosis. It's so much! I can;t imagine how you deal with this disease in TWO kids! you must be an amazing parent!
Q: My finace & I want children but for the past months we have been tryin and nothing he has type 1 diabetes and?
I've heard that its harder for men with diabetes to have children, something 2 do with effecting the sperm and we want children , maybe it could be me? Basically does anyone know if type 1 diabetes effect a mans sperm which does not allow him to concieve??
A: Yes diabetes does in pack fertility. If after six months of trying still nothing go to a doctor and get checked out. It could be either of you but most doctors say try on you own for six months first. i say relax and let it happen sometimes you get so caught up in it. When you step back and don't stress over it boom you get a baby.
